AARP members can get discounts on car rentals, RV insurance and last minute trips to places in the Northeast via the AARP and Travelocity partnership.

Among the deals AARP sends in its e-mails to senior members are one for a free weekend day from Avis on the rental of an Intermediate-through-full size 4-door car for a minimum of three consecutive weekend days. You need to be an AARP member and to present the printed coupon from AARP's Web site at participating Avis location in the contiguous U.S. or Canada. The program is good for travel by June 30.

There are also AARP deals on Enterprise rent a car, although they are not as good as some discounts you may get through AAA or your corporate arrangements with the company. What makes Enterprise really useful is the promie that they will pick you up at your hojme. AARP members receive a 5% discount on standard daily, weekly and monthly rates.

Then there is insurance-- if you have an RV, you might want to look into the company's Auto and Homeowners Program, which includes recreational vehicles and watercraft. It is underwritten by Hartford Fire Insurance Company and its affiliates,

If you want to leave your RV in your driveway and fly somewhere for a quick getaway in June, the special last minute deals from AARP Passport travel -- a joint operation with Travelocity -- include a trip to Vermont. You can fly into Burlington, the capital city, from airports such as JFK in New York, and get a package deal for as little as $190.43 per person ($380.86 total) for three nights beginning Sat June 2 thru Tues day June 5.

CAVEAT: you don't need to go through AARP to get a deal like this. Travelocity offers last minute deals on its own that match the AARP deals. And you can't get last-minute deals that include a car. You must book the car separately, which makes the total cost$234.53 per person ($469.06 total) provided you order an intermediate car from Avis.
